I’m a life-long motorcyclist having started on Rupp mini-bikes when I was around 10 years old. I became involved in racing in the late 1970s, first as a competitor and then as a journalist and photographer.

Larry Lawrence

I’ve been shooting motorcycle racing for over 25 years. While I’ve primarily photographed road racing, I’ve shot everything from flat track, to motocross, to hillclimb, off-road events and just about every type of motorcycle racing out there.

With The Rider Files I hope to display these images and tell the stories that go along with them.

Thanks for visiting the blog.

Larry, anything you write, I’ll read (and look at the photos too!). Good writer, good photographer, and good guy. Hope you’re feeling 100% again, and I’ll buy you lunch the next time I see you. Well, a fixed price lunch….you know, at one of those all you can eat buffets, where you can eat ’till you bust…–Greg Harrison

    Hey Greg!

Free lunch? Let’s see Columbus is only 2 1/2 to 3 hours away!

Why was it Merrill, you and I seemed to pay for those buffets, while guys like Bill Wood and Grant Parsons never gained an ounce?

    Good to hear from you.

A BIG Hey What’s Happenin’ to my great ‘old’ friend Scary Larry! Man, I came across a nod for your site here today reading my morning news on RRX.com and to say I’m impressed would be an understatement. I love the site as I have always loved your work–both written and shot!–over the years. Other then our first meeting at the famed Road America trip in the rain back in May ‘82, one of my other best mems is the trip that you and Gary Jeffries and Gene allowed me to take with you guys to Road America and Mid Ohio in ‘91. Did we have a blast those w/e’s or not!!!???? Those are some storied memories for the ages for sure.
Great to see your presence here to go along with the great stuff you keep hammerin’ out on CN! God Bless buddy and can’t wait to hook up with you at the GP and The Indy Mile down the road here in a few weeks. Keep on rockin’ my man!

    Stu,

    Great to hear from you!

Yes those were some really fun times. For some reason the phrase “corn” keeps coming to mind?!?!

I remember you being beat up after your crash at the WERA races in Grattan. And the rain and cold at Road America? Jeez, that’s the only bad memory.

Hey right back at you on the old photos. Love the stuff you had from the old flatt track races.

I’m headng to Lima right now!

We really have to get all the old gang together soon.

Thanks for checking out the blog.

Larry, Remember me? Myself and Carol have worked for AMA Pro Racing for 23 years. I drove the Supermoto Truck, and Carol did registration the entire Supermoto Series when AMA (OHIO) owned it. Want to know the whole story about Supermoto. e-mail me. Liesner has it all wrong. Bob Hill

    Larry,
I check your site regularly, it really brings back the memories lots of great photos of some guys that I followed
back in the great old days. Being from the Northern Illinois area I always followed what Dave Zupan and the Human Race Team
were doing, Avery Innis was a close freind and Ed Key rode out of our shop. It is great to see pics of these guys and their
    teams on you pages
    Regards

Glad to have you as a regular visitor. That’s cool that Ed Key rode out of your shop. He’s one of my all-time favorite riders. The battle between him and Schwantz at the GNF in ‘83 or ‘84 was epic.

    Larry,

I am so embarrassed I didn’t realize this was yours until just now. What a GREAT read this is. It’s going to take me a long time to get through it, but I am going to!!!

You are wonderful to be sharing your insight and years upon years watching and reporting on the men and women who race motorcycles that bring so much joy and excitement. This is a true treasure–from the perspective of someone who has seen a lot over the years.

I have started a “Fans of Cycle magazine” Facebook page–take a look. Tough coming up with content!!!

And, I hope you don’t mind, but I posted a couple a couple of the Road America pics on my Facebook page. Now that I have run across this, I am posting a link to it as well!

    Take care, Larry!!

Thanks for this great site. I’ve been upset about the death of Cycle News but your site has helped me through.

Current, old and you cover it all.

    Keep up the great work!

The Archives page was outstanding in the paper version of Cycle News, and it was not until just now, reading thru this Rider Files offering that the reason became apparent. This site and the Archives speak to the fact that it is the participants that make the sport great and not the other way around.

  13. Terry Moore says:

Cool site Larry!! Since I am an OLD WERA racer some of your shots
brings back memories of great friends and rivals!!

    Thanks again!!
