Hurley Wilvert (No. 51 Kawasaki) leads Ron Pierce (No. 37 Suzuki) and other riders through turn five at Road Atlanta. The photo was taken during the AMA Road Race National at Road Atlanta on April 25, 1971. It’s hard to tell from this shot, but both Wilvert and Pierce’s machines were running massive drum brakes on the front. This was in the transitional era when disc brakes were beginning to gain greater acceptance. Most of the factory teams had already made the move to discs. This photo is part of  the Bud Turner Collection.
