Two of the fastest riders to emerge in WERA’s North Central Region in the early 1990s were a brother pair Bill and Mark Sweeney, out of Plainfield, Indiana. The Sweeney brothers came out of motocross racing and it was older brother Bill who first started road racing and later brother Mark along. This is a photo from Indianapolis Raceway Park in April of 1993. Bill beat little brother for the final podium spot in C Superstock that day, but Mark came back and edged his older brother to take third in C Superbike. Bill and Mark had excellent careers, both winning multiple WERA National titles and both racing AMA Pro as well – Bill in 600 Supersport and Mark in Pro Thunder and 250 Grand Prix.
