AURORA, Ill. (April 28, 2012) – Feld Motor Sports® announced today that Mike Alessi, of Hilliard, Fla., will race in the Monster Energy Cup October 20 at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium.

At last year’s Monster Energy Cup, Alessi qualified for the Main Events with a second-place finish in Semi #2. The veteran Supercross Class rider went on to finish 10th overall with 6-21-6 finishes.

“To know that there is a race that you can participate in and have a chance to win $1 million adds a whole new perspective to the sport, and that is exactly what the Monster Energy Cup does,” said Mike Alessi. “I am looking forward to racing in this year’s Monster Energy Cup and can’t wait to see the new track design.”

Throughout the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, season Alessi has earned eight top-10 finishes and two podium finishes. He’s currently seventh in Supercross Class point standings, just two points out of sixth place.

The 2012 Monster Energy Cup features an all-new track design inspired by five-time Supercross Class Champion Ricky Carmichael. The Carmichael-inspired track design will consist of supercross and motocross obstacles unlike any other racetrack design in the world. More than 200’ of the track will be built into the grandstands, and the riders exit the stadium and race through the Monster Energy Fan Zone outside of the stadium and through the pit area before they catapult back into the stadium. The Monster Energy Cup posts a $250,000 purse with the winner walking away with a $100,000 check, and any rider that wins all three Main Events will take home $1 million.

Tickets for the 2011 Monster Energy Cup can be purchased at the Thomas & Mack Center Box Office, UNLVtickets outlets, online at www.UNLVtickets.com, www.MonsterEnergyCup.com, or by phone at (702) 739-FANS. Tickets will be available at the Sam Boyd Stadium Box Office on the day of the event only.

In all my years of racing I never saw racing fans from a particular state become so enthused about one of their home riders as Georgia did for Scott Russell. Jonesboro’s Russell was a down-home Georgia boy through and through, with a Southern accent so thick that some Yankees had a hard time understanding him when he first came on the scene. Russell rapidly rose from the club ranks to AMA Superbike star in the span of just a few seasons. So beloved by his home fans was Russell, that when he raced at his home track you were guaranteed a big crowd. This photo is a prime example of Russell’s drawing power. A huge crowd of 15,500 poured into Road Atlanta to watch Russell race in 1990. It didn’t hurt that another rising star of the era was a young kid named Mike Smith from Canton. The 15,500 fans coming to Atlanta that year? It wasn’t for an AMA Superbike race - it was for WERA Formula USA during the 1990 WERA GNF. It was likely the biggest crowd to ever attend a WERA race and it was all thanks to Georgia fans flocking in droves to watch Russell, on his Muzzy Kawasaki, race the Team Marlboro Roberts 500cc GP bike ridden by Robbie Petersen.

A crowd of 15,500 flooded Road Atlanta at the WERA Grand National Final in November of 1990, to watch their favorite son Scott Russell make a special appearance in Formula USA on his Muzzy Kawasaki Superbike. Here Russell leads fellow Georgia rider Mike Smith on the Valvoline Suzuki coming out of turn five with a standing room only crowd watching on. AURORA, Ill. (April 28, 2012) – Feld Motor Sports® announced today that Justin Brayton, Fort Dodge, Iowa, will race in the Monster Energy Cup at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on October 20.

During the inaugural Monster Energy Cup, Brayton was 12th overall, finishing 13-5-18. Last year marked Brayton’s first ride aboard the Team Honda Muscle Milk motorcycle.

“There are not many things you can do in this world knowing you have an opportunity to win $1 Million in one night,” said Brayton. “That really makes everybody push a little harder and take a few extra chances, which makes for great racing.”

With two races left in the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, season, Brayton is in third place, just three points out of second. Since turning pro in 2002, Brayton has earned seven podium finishes, 18 top-5 and 31 top-10 finishes in Supercross and Supercross Lites Class racing.

“It’s very tricky to try and adapt to the unique Monster Energy Cup track,” said Brayton. “Riding wise and bike setup becomes very crucial. We go there not knowing if it’s going to be more supercross or more motocross, so you try to be as prepared as you can and have an open mind to changing things throughout the day to make you more comfortable. “

Russell Masecar enters the carousel on his sharp-looking Honda CBR600 F2 at Indianapolis Raceway Park during WERA Sprint races on April 4, 1993. At the time Masecar was an up-and-coming novice rider launching a racing career that has lasted 20 years.  At IRP that day Russell scored a pair of podium finishes – one of them in A Production, which meant he beat a lot of bigger bikes on the horsepower hungry track.
