David Pingree, on his Red Baron Racing KTM, leads Cassidy Anderson (No. 15 Team Troy Lee Designs Honda) and Brandon Currie (No. 2 Graves Motorsports Yamaha) in the AMA Hot Wheels Supermoto Lites race in the parking lot of Denver’s Mile High Stadium on August 25, 2006. Pingree was an excellent motocross and Supercross racer, who like many MXers, made a successful transition to Supermoto. Pingree finished third at Denver, behind winner Currie and runner up Anderson. “Ping” came back and won the series finale Lites round that year in Long Beach, California. Turns out Pingree was an equally talented writer. His sarcastically humorous pieces in Racer X are among the best in motorcycle journalism today.
