Corey Alexander to Pilot Team’s Inaugural Effort

EAST TROY, WI / CARMEL, NY (January 6, 2012) – Michael Jordan Motorsports (MJM) is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Army National Guard, Fairhills Group and Celtic Racing to create a SuperSport effort that will compete in both the AMA Pro SuperSport East and West championship series in 2012. This unique partnership cements a long-standing alliance between MJM and Celtic Racing, which will provide technical and logistical services for the program. The Army National Guard has participated in AMA Pro SuperSport over the past two years, giving young riders opportunities to further their racing careers. Fairhills Group, a New York based alternative investment management firm founded by Edward Bronson, has signed on as co-title sponsor of the effort. Corey Alexander, a 2011 race winner, will pilot the #5 National Guard Fairhills Group Racing entry.

Alexander, 17, has been riding and racing motorcycles since he was five years old. His family has been in the motorcycle industry for over 50 years and owns a motorcycle dealership in New York. Alexander started his road racing career at the age of 13 after being selected as one of the 23 Redbull Rookies in 2008. When the Rookies program was over he was too young to turn pro, so he honed his skills winning amateur national championships. In 2011, his first full season as a pro, Alexander won his first AMA national and went on to finish third in the AMA West Coast SuperSport Championship.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for us to begin to compete at the entry level, as developing young talent is crucial to the future of our sport,” said Kreig Robinson, MJM’s Vice President of Corporate Relations. “We’re extremely excited to expand our partnership with the Army National Guard, as well as welcome Fairhills and Celtic Racing officially into the family.”

Racer Corey Alexander added, “I’m so excited to be a part of the National Guard Fairhills Group Racing team. It is truly an honor to ride for the National Guard and I look forward to representing hundreds of thousands of soldiers while doing what I love, racing motorcycles. I’m also very excited to have Fairhills as a new part of our program and sport while partnering up with the well-known Celtic Racing. I know we now have one of the top teams in the paddock and it’s my job to utilize all of these amazing resources to win some races! I also want to give a special thanks to Michael Jordan Motorsports for giving me this amazing opportunity.”

“To be asked by Michael Jordan Motorsports to run the National Guard Fairhills Group Racing SuperSport program is a great opportunity and honor,” said Barry Gilsenan, Celtic Racing team owner. “Celtic Racing prides itself on the development of young riders. We helped Corey Alexander start his racing career on the 125’s and have watched him progress as a rider. Corey is a great kid and we look forward to working with him this season.”

Edward Bronson, Founder of Fairhills, commented, “As avid fans of motorsports, we take pleasure in providing support to racers and to the fans of the sport. We look forward to sharing the experience with our clients and prospective investors.”

Michael Jordan Motorsports is proud to partner with: Jordan Brand (a division of Nike), National Guard, American Suzuki, Fairhills Group, Hanes, Gatorade, Bazzaz, Vortex Racing Components, Gemini Racing, FMF Exhausts, K-Tech Suspension-Orient Express Racing, Maxima Racing Oils, K & N Air Filters, Dainese Leathers, AGV Helmets, Ancra Tie-downs, Chicken Hawk Racing Tire Warmers, Armour Bodies, DID Chains, Factory Pro Dyno, Roclun International, STAR Motorcycle School, Motion Pro Tools, Zero Gravity Windscreens, with transportation provided by Eastside Trucking.

AURORA, Ill. (January 6, 2012) – The last time the AMA Arenacross Series took to the track in Wilkes Barre, Pa., in December, it signified a pivotal point in the championship. Not only did it mark the final race of the 2011 calendar year and brought the first quarter of the season to a close, but it also led into the final break of the season before the schedule kicks into high gear, beginning this weekend at Grand Rapids’ Van Andel Arena.

Currently, the battle for the Arenacross Class points lead is heating up between FMF Power/Poynt TUF Honda’s Jeff Gibson, the current front-runner, and Babbitt’s Monster Enegry/AMSOIL Kawasaki presented by Maxxis’ Tyler Bowers, the reigning series champion. Throughout the first four rounds of the season, they’ve traded wins, and have also had the luxury of dialing in their respective programs thanks to a pair of extended breaks from competition.

Now, as a mere six points separates the two riders, the schedule hits an eight-week stretch of consecutive rounds to round out the 2012 season, and ultimately crown a champion. This weekend’s fifth round of the season from Grand Rapids is the first race of the New Year and will ultimately set the tone for the intense run to the conclusion of the championship.

Simply put, it’s go time for all competitors in the premier Arenacross Class. Mistakes are no longer an option, and time is of the essence. For any riders who have gotten their 2012 season off to a slow start, the final eight rounds of the championship presents an opportunity to turn things around and carry the momentum through to the stretch run.

Momentum plays a significant role in the world of arenacross, as any rider on a hot streak has the potential to ride the wave to even greater success. With little to no downtime between rounds, a mistake at any point from now until the season finale could result in a huge hit to one’s title hopes.

Through the first two months of the season, Gibson and Bowers, in addition to Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki’s Chad Johnson and Team Faith KTM’s Kelly Smith, have established themselves as the most consistent riders in the series. However with nearly a month of additional time to prepare for the most intense part of the championship, it will be interesting to see how other front runners like Foremost Insurance/Spinechillers/Storm Lake Honda’s Nathan Skaggs and Bella’s Cupcakes/Club MX Kawasaki’s Zach Ames attack the remainder of the schedule.

Regardless, the intensity and excitement of the AMA Arenacross Series is set to reach new heights. Every lap counts, every move has its consequence, and tensions will be at a boil once the gate drops in Grand Rapids. The championship is heating up and over the next two months, the premier Arenacross Class will be a battleground of bar-to-bar action.

In addition to the buzz surrounding the premier division, the Arenacross Lites Class will receive a shot in the arm as the AMA Arenacross Series welcomes the return of groundbreaking female rider Vicki Golden. The new Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki rider is on the best equipment the series has to offer and following a recovery process for a broken collarbone that delayed her start to the 2012 season, Golden is eagerly awaiting her chance to get back out on the track against her male counterparts. While this weekend will serve as an opportunity to get her back into her groove, Golden has her sights set on becoming a player in the Western Regional Arenacross Lites Class Championship, which resumes next weekend.

Van Andel Arena has long been a staple of the AMA Arenacross Series, and following a one-year hiatus, the high-octane competition is back in one of its most beloved cities.

The fifth round of the 2012 AMA Arenacross Series kicks off tonight, with an action-packed evening of competition, and concludes Saturday, January 7, with yet another captivating night of action. The show, for both Friday and Saturday, begins at 7 p.m. ET.

Live timing and scoring from each round of the AMA Arenacross Series returns for the 2012 season! To follow the intense racing action live, log onto www.Arenacross.com. For live updates, also log on to http://www.facebook.com/AMAarenacross and http://twitter.com/arenacross.

Championship’s Top Five Finishers Speak to the Media in Anaheim

”It’s tough to defend the title,” said Villopoto. “Every year is a new year. But, I think a lot of it is based on what you did in the offseason to prepare and coming into the season ready so that on the weekends (at the races) it’s fun. We’re out there to get a job done, and that’s to win." - Ryan Villopoto

ANAHEIM, Calif. (January 5, 2011) – After the most statistically competitive season in history one year ago, the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, season is now mere hours away, and on Thursday, Feld Motor Sports® welcomed the industry, local media, national media, and international media to the annual season-opening press conference from Angel Stadium. Reigning champion, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto, along with the rest of the top five from last season’s final standings – TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing’s Chad Reed, Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey, Toyota/Yamaha/JGR’s James Stewart, and American Honda Muscle Milk’s Trey Canard – spoke to the attending media, offering their thought’s on the season that lies ahead.

The 2011 season, dubbed the “Greatest Season Ever” featured a five-way battle for the championship throughout the 17 races. Each of Thursday’s invited riders at the press conference claimed at least one victory in 2011, and up until Canard’s unfortunate season-ending injury with three rounds to go, all five were within 20 points of one another.

Ultimately, Villopoto emerged as the champion, capturing a series-leading six victories en route to his first career Supercross Class championship. It signified the beginning of a historic year for Villopoto, who captured both AMA-sanctioned titles as well as the record-setting million-dollar bounty at the inaugural Monster Energy Cup in October. He returns ready to defend his title, looking to become the first rider since Ricky Carmichael in 2005-2006 to claim back-to-back championships.

”It’s tough to defend the title,” said Villopoto. “Every year is a new year. But, I think a lot of it is based on what you did in the offseason to prepare and coming into the season ready so that on the weekends (at the races) it’s fun. We’re out there to get a job done, and that’s to win. We need to minimize mistakes, and Anaheim has a lot of hype, but you can’t win the championship here. You can definitely lose it though. I’ve put in the work this offseason. I’m ready; the bike is 100%, so I think we’re there. I think we’re all just ready to bring it on.”

For Reed, the 2011 season started with the creation of TwoTwo Motorsports, his own race team for which he would also ride for. A strong start to the season with consistent podium efforts eventually resulted in two wins for Reed, landing second in the championship. He also received the support of Factory Honda and now, enters the 2012 season as a full-fledged American Honda rider.

“We’ve had a lot more months to prepare for the season this time around,” said Reed. “As a rider, coming into the season, I haven’t been with the same bike and group of people in a long time. We have more support from Honda and I think we have the best bike. I think you need to win races now in order to win a championship. Year after year, I’ve been there on the podium, but I’ve only had a couple race wins. I think you need about five this year to be there, so its going to take that effort week in and week out to be a contender.”

In his 2011 title defense, Dungey posted the most consistent overall effort of all his rivals. However, just one victory, in addition to a DNF and the second Anaheim race, relegated him to third in the championship. Despite that, Dungey was a factor in the championship the entire course of the season and now makes the move to Red Bull KTM for 2012, rejoining his mentor Roger DeCoster. The biggest move of the offseason has generated considerable buzz throughout the industry, and now Dungey is prepared to bring KTM is first taste of success in the premier division.

“The opportunity that presented itself at KTM led to the change in teams,” said Dungey. “It was a lot of fun at Suzuki, but in going to KTM, there was that level of commitment. It was the perfect fit for me. What they’ve accomplished in the time we’ve had, and being back with Roger and Ian (Harrison) has been a lot of fun. Preparations are going well and we had a great offseason. I feel rested and I feel fit, so I’m looking forward to Saturday.”

Stewart posted five victories in 2011, and on several occasions showcased his impressive speed, highlighted by a dominant effort at the second Anaheim race. However, despite his regular presence at the front of the field, Stewart’s typically reliable consistency took a hit, ultimately resulting in a fourth-place finish in the standings. During the offseason, Stewart made a highly-publicized move to Joe Gibbs Racing, drawing national media attention to the sport and generating huge anticipation for his first season with the highly-recognizable franchise.

“The biggest change for me this season is going to JGR,” said Stewart. “It was a good change and one that I needed. I spent a lot of time in the offseason trying to decide what was best for me. The team is good, so we’ll find out. Although it’s been 10 years (as a pro), I’ve had the opportunity to be rejuvenated and refreshed, but I knew I had to make some changes for 2012. We won five races last season, but it still wasn’t where we needed to be. I went to the drawing board and did what I needed in order to make it happen.”

Canard’s aforementioned season-ending injury derailed an otherwise memorable and extremely impressive rookie season in the Supercross Class. Three victories highlighted his season as he surprised many with his speed, consistency, and lack of intimidation against his experienced counterparts. Unfortunately for Canard, his season will start late after suffering another injury in preparation for the championship, but once he returns, many expect him to assume his position up front.

“Unfortunately, I’ve learned what to do with my down time because I’ve had so much opportunity to do so (due to injuries),” said Canard. “On the plus side, I’ve been able to do things I don’t always get to do. I also keep training to stay in shape, so I can come back strong. Through all the adversity, I’ve become a stronger person and a stronger athlete. I’m going to continue to strive whether it means more injures or more success.”

The buzz is huge and the gate is about to drop on what many think will be the most competitive Monster Energy Supercross season of all time, and it all commences on Saturday night. Fans unable to make it out to Angel Stadium can catch LIVE coverage on SPEED, beginning at 7 p.m. PT.

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is pleased to announce the 2012 AMA Pro/Am Motocross schedule. AMA Pro/Am Motocross provides the proving ground for amateur racers to earn the credentials they need to line up at an AMA Supercross or AMA Pro Racing Motocross event.

“AMA Pro/Am Motocross represents the pinnacle of amateur motocross competition,” said AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley. “Racers at these events compete at premier tracks around the country for the points, purse money and contingency that will help them get to the next level — AMA Supercross and AMA Pro Racing Motocross.

“This year’s schedule is one of the best ever, with more than 40 events at some of the country’s most challenging race tracks run by the sport’s top promoters and organizers. This schedule is designed to test riders with top competition and national-caliber tracks and prepare them for the pro ranks.”

Bromley added that the current AMA Pro/Am Motocross schedule is just the start for 2012 and that additional events will be added and announced throughout the course of the season.

The 2012 AMA Pro/Am Motocross season kicks off in Texas with the Texas Winter Series. It wraps up in Florida at the Winter Olympics.

AMA Director of Supercross Kevin Crowther added that the AMA Racing Pro/Am schedule and points process has contributed significantly to the skill and readiness of incoming AMA Supercross riders. He says that AMA Pro/AM Motocross competitors, who can also earn points toward their AMA Supercross license at AMA Arenacross events, are well prepared for professional competition.

“AMA Pro/Am Motocross provides the foundation of professional competition in this country and is integral to the natural progression of a rider through the amateur ranks all the way up to earning their AMA Supercross license,” Crowther said. “I am pleased to see such a promising schedule for 2012. AMA Pro/Am Motocross gets stronger every year and continues to help prepare the fastest AMA Supercross racers on the planet.”

AMA Pro/Am Motocross events are open to both professionally licensed and A-class amateur motocross racers. The events allow amateurs to gain experience on America’s top tracks and prepare for the fast pace and long motos featured at the pro level.

To be considered for a professional motocross license, competitors must have earned at least 75 advancement points (at the time of application) in AMA Pro/Am Motocross events in a continuous 12-month period. Points are based off overall finishes in either the 250 Pro/Am and Open Pro/Am classes. Points from each class are not combined.

Season’s Hardest-Charging Rider Will Once Again be Recognized in Las Vegas

AURORA, Ill. (January 5, 2012) – After recognizing owner/rider Chad Reed last season, following an impressive debut campaign by TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing, Bret Michaels is back with the “Rock Hard-Ride Hard Award” for the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, season. The award honors the hardest-charging comeback rider of the season, who ultimately pushes himself to the maximum mental and physical limit in search of the coveted Monster Energy Supercross championship.

In the spirit of the undying will to succeed, Michaels is donating thousands of his own dollars as an award to one deserving rider. The award will be presented to the rider, who just like Bret, battled through adversity either on or off the track throughout the 2012 Monster Energy Supercross season. Michaels will personally present the winner with the award at the season finale at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium on Saturday, May 5.

In conjunction with Monster Energy Supercross, which will present an unprecedented television package for the 2012 season, the “Rock Hard-Ride Hard Award” winner will be determined by a combination of votes from race fans and a rider’s position in the championship standings. Details on how fans can vote for their choice will be revealed soon.

Feld Motor Sports® Senior Director of Two-Wheel Operations, Todd Jendro shared his thoughts on the return of this unique award, “Bret’s legacy in pop culture is undeniable,” said Jendro. “Aside from being a talented musician, he is also an avid motorcycle rider and has become a true advocate of the sport of supercross. He’s also overcome a lot of adversity throughout his career, and still remains a prominent, well-respected figure.”

“It’s not a matter of whether or not you go down,” said Michaels. “It’s about how you fight back when times get tough. These Monster Energy Supercross athletes are without a doubt some of the toughest individuals on the planet, and this is a chance to recognize that.”

Michaels added, “Feld Motor Sports has been a great group to work with and after such a memorable experience last year, I’m excited to bring the ‘Rock Hard-Ride Hard Award’ back for another incredible season of racing.”

Beginning this Saturday, Michaels and Monster Energy Supercross fans all over the world will be watching as the fastest riders on the planet begin their 17-race battle to crown a champion.

The 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, season gets underway in just a matter of hours, from Angel Stadium on Anaheim, Calif., on Saturday, January 7, and will be broadcast LIVE on SPEED.

(NEWS RELEASE)

AURORA, Ill. (January 5, 2012) – The 2012 AMA Arenacross Series is back in action this weekend, kicking off the new year with a return to Grand Rapids, Mich., and Van Andel Arena. While the battle for the Arenacross Class title wages on between the likes of FMF Power/Poynt TUF Honda’s Jeff Gibson and the Babbitt’s Monster Energy/AMSOIL Kawasaki presented by Maxxis duo of Tyler Bowers and Chad Johnson, another big storyline will unfold.

Vicki Golden emerged as one of the biggest stories in the sport of motocross last season, becoming the first woman in history to compete against men. She rewrote the record books and then proceeded to achieve even more success by winning a gold medal at the X Games this past summer. While an injury set back her quest to make even more history by winning an Arenacross Lites Class title, the newest member of Babbitt’s Monster Energy Kawasaki has missed just one round of the Western Regional Arenacross Lites Class championship, and still holds a shot at capturing that crown.

Arenacross: Vicki, it’s your first race of the year this weekend. I know your season got off to a bit of a late start for you. Can you talk about your injury a little?

Vicki Golden: Unfortunately on one my first days back riding supercross – to start training for arenacross – I ended up just making a stupid mistake, going over the bars and putting my shoulder into the face of a triple. The pressure pushed on my collar bone and it just snapped. I went to the doctor and luckily I didn’t have to have surgery on it. The whole healing process went really well and I got to start riding early.

I started riding and, unfortunately, I got back on the supercross track and kind of had a freak accident that set me back a little bit. The whole comeback has been a little bit more difficult. It’s taken a lot longer. I’ve never really broken a bone since I was on 60’s. I’ve only hurt muscles and things like that, so I didn’t really know how long it would take or how it would feel. It’s been a long process and I’m finally getting stronger. I’m able to push the limits without feeling any pain. I’m just excited to be able to get out there and race. I’ve been waiting round by round, and now its finally here.

AX: You originally planned on racing the Eastern Regional Arenacross Lites Class, but the injury has now led you to race out West. With only one round completed in that championship, you are still in contention for that title. What is your goal there?

VG: I’d like to be up there. The main goal in the long term is to get enough points to earn an AMA license (for supercross). Of course, I have a goal for each weekend as well. This is a good weekend to get on the race bike, and it’s a home race for Babbitt’s and Kawasaki as well. They wanted me to come out and race this one, before the West season resumes next weekend, and I was all for it. So, this weekend is like a warm up, to get all the bugs out and get back into it. When the West Coast starts next weekend, I’ll be ready.

AX: Talk about the opportunity to race for the Babbitt’s team. They are obviously one of the best teams in the series, so how do you think having that support will help you?

VG: It means a lot. Babbitt’s is one of the top teams in arenacross, and one of the top teams in general. To be a part of that means a lot to me. I have so much confidence from having that kind of support and that kind of talent. Everything they’re about is winning and getting the job done, and that’s what I’m about too. To be a part of that, I’m just really excited.

AX: What are you looking to achieve this weekend in your first race back?

VG: I just want to get on the race bike and see how it is. I just want to warm up. Everyone has been racing for the past month and a half, while I’ve been doing a little bit of riding and a lot of gym time. It’s going to be good to get out on the race track. I want to slowly get everything figured out, but my main goal is to make it into the main event and see what I can do there.

Everyone has been saying it’s a wild card on who wins and who can get the top positions, so I don’t think that will count me out, but I’m just hoping to get through this first one and actually start progressing to get some top finishes after that.

AX: Given all the history you’ve made in this series by competing against men, do you think about any of that when you are out there compared to when you are racing against other women?

VG: I actually think there is less pressure because when I race with the women, I’m expected to run well because there are only a few women who run at the pace that we set. So, I’m expected to do really well there. With arenacross, it’s an ‘I’m a woman in a man’s world’ sort of deal. So, there are not really a lot of expectations, which takes the pressure off. I think that kind of helps me a little bit more. I think I ride better with no expectations, and that’s the best part.

AX: You touched a little bit on the long-term goals. What are your goals in the AMA Arenacross Series and it’s unique form of racing, compared to what you’ve grown up doing racing outdoors?

VG: I definitely like it a lot. It makes me excited whenever the (arenacross) series comes back around, and it’s become one of my favorite things to race. It makes it easy to train and work for, because I love this type of riding. But, my goals are just to get into the mains and get good finishes. I obviously want to break my top-10 from last year, and I think I’m capable of it. And with the bike I have with the Babbitt’s team that should make it a lot easier.

AX: You achieved success on a similar track this summer at the X Games after winning the gold medal. Do you think all your experience from the AMA Arenacross Series helped in achieving that, and consequently, do you think running well at the X Games will help you run better in arenacross this year?

VG: Yeah, definitely. Arenacross is what gave me that gold medal; all that training and preparation. We only had two weeks before that event to prepare, so everyone else was still learning, while I was just brushing up and progressing more and more, finding new lines instead of just trying to get through everything. I was picking things apart trying to find where I could get more, rather than just make my way through it.

There’s so many options in arenacross (in line selection), and I just want to figure out how to do them all. In motocross, you just go through and section and that is usually the one way. I think what I experienced at X Games helped me become a better rider for this year’s arenacross season, but unfortunately because of my injury, I haven’t been on the bike as much as I’d like to. But, I’ve been riding a bike my whole life, so I think it’ll come back pretty quick.

MOTORSPORTS, GIVING, OPPORTUNITY…

CORONA, CALIF (January 5, 2012) – Monster Energy and Feld Motor Sports® have teamed up to donate tickets to local Boys and Girls Clubs throughout the nation for selected races during the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, season. The 2012 Monster Energy Supercross season kicks off this Saturday, January 7 at Anaheim’s Angel Stadium and will conclude in Las Vegas at Sam Boyd Stadium on Saturday, May 5.

In an effort to give back to the community Monster Energy created The Monster Energy Gives Back Program to support nonprofit organizations through fundraisers and charity events. The Boys and Girls Club is a perfect fit for this initiative and allows children the opportunity to go to a Monster Energy Supercross race that they may not have been able to experience. A lucky few may even get the chance to meet Monster Energy’s world-class athletes that are competing in the races.

“We are excited to give back to the Boys and Girls Clubs and to share our passion for what we do by providing kids the opportunity to see Monster Energy Supercross and also bringing them to a new environment that will hopefully inspire them in the same ways motorsports has inspired us,” said Terri Sacks, director and founder of The Monster Energy Gives Back philanthropic program.

“When Terri approached our team regarding Monster Energy Gives Back, we were touched by her passion for this project and immediately jumped on board”, said Charlie Mancuso, President, Feld Motor Sports.
