There were a few unusual bikes raced in the WERA National Endurance Series, but this one was still a head turner. This is the BMW K100 raced by RK BMW in the opening round of the series at Roebling Road in March of 1990. The riders for the team were Keith Wakefield and John Lopez. In spite of racing a motorcycle that had 100-150 lbs. more bulk than most of the competition, putting the “heavy” in the Heavyweight class, Wakefield and Lopez did respectably at Roebling, finishing fifth in Heavyweight Production.

Fenwick was a mainstay for the Humans, one of the all-time great teams in WERA Endurance history. This was the opening round of 1990 and Fenwick’s first race without longtime teammate Kurt Hall. Hall had defected to rival Team Suzuki Endurance. Fenwick and Bray finished a close second to Team Suzuki’s Hall and Mike Smith at Roebling Road that day.
