Stichting Baansport Blijham hosted the first round of the International Mefo Sport Flattrack Cup 2011 on their short track, where a good crowd was treated to plenty fierce battles between the cup regulars and the local experts.
Former European Short Track Champion Sytze Hilleger was fast from the get go while American Flat Track star Michelle Disalvo needed a couple of heats to get used to the dirt track again after she had been supermoto and road racing the last years. German number one Stefan Gatzenmeier was challenging hard, and leading a heat when he went down hard over one of the bumps. It was another Dutch grass track ace Johan Berndt who took advantage of the inline restart winning the heat.

Second-place finisher Michelle Disalvo (left) shares the podium with Dutch riders Sytze Hilleger (winner) and third-place Johan Berndt at the International Mefo Sport Flattrack Cup.
The grand final saw Hilleger, Disalvo and Berndt on the front row, joined by cup regular Mick Jansen.
Hilleger and Disalvo were battling for the lead throughout the final, constantly being challenged by Berndt, but Hilleger held on and brought home his first flat track win in a lot of years, making him grin from ear to ear throughout the ceremony! Gatzenmeier had to start from the third row with a sore right wrist. He progressed through the field to battle it with the Jansen brothers, and moved momentarily into 4th position, but the 15 lap final proved to painful on his wrist and he had to settle for 5th, still scoring valuable championship points. New comer Stefan Claussen jumped into the deep end with his beautiful homemade hybrid, consisting of a modern yamaha motor in a modified 70s KTM enduro frame. He showed strong performances and we hope to see more of him in the next races.
Round 1, Blijham (NL), Expert results:
1. #2 Sytze Hilleger, Ferwert(NL), KTM
2. #97 Michelle Disalvo, Modesto (USA), Suzuki

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 17, 2011) – MX Sports Pro Racing and Alli, the Alliance of Action Sports announce today the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship will enjoy exclusive coverage across NBC Sports, SPEED and FUEL TV, with 60 hours of original programming, including 28 hours of live coverage. The domestic broadcasts will reach more than 120 million viewers across the three networks.
NBC Sports’ coverage is spread over three months, including a pair of live broadcasts. NBC’s third season of Motocross broadcasts begin with the Rockstar Energy High Point National June 12, continuing with the Rockstar Energy RedBud National on July 2 and the Rockstar Energy Unadilla National on August 13.
As a longtime supporter of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, SPEED will once again carry significant coverage for 2011 with 21 hours of programming. The network will showcase every final moto of the 250 Class Championship, in addition to two live broadcasts of the Peterson CAT Washougal National on July 23, and the season-ending Pala Motocross National on September 10.
“We are proud to continue our strong relationship with both NBC and SPEED,” said MX Sports Pro Racing Vice President Davey Coombs. “They have been incredible partners for the past two seasons and their support has helped American Motocross reach millions of fans in the U.S. and around the world. Now with the addition of FUEL TV this season, we are even more excited about what the future will hold.”
The Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship adds FUEL TV to the broadcast family for 2011, with more than 39 hours of total coverage on the network. FUEL TV will bring Motocross fans 24 hours of live programming, allowing them the chance to watch the stars of the 250 and 450 classes go bar-to-bar during the opening moto from each race. In addition, FUEL TV will also air 12 weekly one-hour highlight shows, plus a season preview, midseason and recap shows.
The series’ widely-popular online coverage will continue as well, allowing enthusiasts to log onto the official website of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship to catch all the opening-moto action at www.allisports.com/motocross.
“Every moto enthusiast now has the opportunity to be a part of the entire day of racing, whether they choose to watch the television broadcast or the live stream, or a combination of the two,” said Mark Carter, GM of Strategic Partnerships for Alli Sports. “We’re providing more robust coverage this season, and giving our fans a choice of how they watch moto racing. This is a huge step forward for the sport.”
Bringing the action into homes across the country is a talented lineup of veteran television personalities. Since joining the motocross broadcast team in 2009, Jason Weigandt has provided colorful play-by-play of all the on-track excitement. He returns to fulfill the same role in 2011 alongside another familiar name in former AMA Pro Motocross Champion Jeff Emig. “Fro,” as many like to call him, gives viewers an insider perspective as to what is taking place in the riders’ heads with analysis only a former champion could provide. Rounding out the three-person team is longtime trackside reporter Erin Bates. With considerable knowledge of the sport, Bates will bring viewers the latest breaking news and developing storylines from the starting gate and the pits.
Saturday’s Rockstar Energy Hangtown National, the opening round of the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, can be seen beginning at 4 p.m. EST on FUEL TV, with coverage of the opening 250- and 450-Class motos. Remaining broadcasts of the final motos of each class will air back-to-back on SPEED this Sunday, May 22, beginning at 11 a.m. EST.

DU QUOIN, IL – 16 APRIL 2011
This was our first GNC indoor short track race in a few years. I believe the last one was right here in Du Quoin. I was pretty excited about it since the last time here it was a Hot Shoe, but with National-level competition, and I was able to win it. I came out to test here right after Daytona so I knew a little to start with. It was also my 25th birthday and I knew it would be either a really good one, or a lousy one.
I qualified 10th… but felt like I could go faster. In my heat race ( the 3rd ) were Henry Wiles, Johnny Lewis, Jesse Janisch. JD Beach, Stevie Bonsey, JR Schnabel, Luke Gough and Brock Shwarzenbacher to name a few. I got a good jump, right behind Wiles (who was leading) But a red flag came out and we had a re-start. Off the line Wiles stalled his bike, got run over, and there was another red flag. This gave me the point now. I got the jump and rode a clean heat race, bringing home the win in the Heat
Next was the Dash. I got off the line in 3rd, stayed there until Jake Johnson got me right at the end, putting me in 4th. I tried a couple of different things in the Dash that did not pan out that well, so I made a couple more changes for the Main Event.
In the Main Event I again got off the line in 3rd place, ran there until about 5 laps to go and then made a mistake which allowed Jake to get by me. I found a line and was coming back… and felt like I could make a pass but almost hit the back of him, ending up losing too much ground. It was a 4th place finish for me that night. All in all it wasn’t too bad of a birthday but it would have been nice to do better
.
SALINAS CA – TT AND SHORT TRACK – 23 and 24 APRIL 2011
Kenny Coolbeth, Bryan Smith and I had teamed up to go to Du Quoin together in the rig owned by my main sponsor, Craig Rogers. This would save us all on the cost of fuel. After DuQuoin we went to Kewanne to Reimans Harley Davidson, Brandan Bergen’s sponsor. We all prepped up bikes for a day and then all four of us headed out Tuesday afternoon. We drove straight through, had a great trip out, getting to Craig Rogers’ house in San Jose on Thursday morning. We hung out for a couple of days until race day.
When we got to the track on Saturday it looked big and promised to be a lot of fun. I felt really good in practice and qualified 2nd to Jake Johnson. This put me in the 2nd Heat with Luke Gough, Robbie Pearson, Stevie Bonsey, JD Beach, Chad Cose, and two of my traveling companions and buddies: Bryan Smith and Brandan Bergen, to name a few. I got off second on the line and was running behind Luke, who was riding really well. I made some time on him and he would make it back on me. I finished 2nd but felt good and racey.
I was in the Dash again, running 3rd to Jake. On the last lap, last corner, I ran underneath him and took his line away to get 2nd. With these Dashes, they give us Championship points… you need all the points you can get.
For the Main Event I picked the top, got a good jump and was running 2nd for about 10 laps until Brad Baker got by me and then I got by him. He again got by me and made it stick, taking off. I then ran in 3rd place until about 5 laps to go and had a “big” moment going around the right hander. Henry Wiles got by me and then so did Sammy Halbert. I ran down Sammy on the last lap, last corner, similar to my pass on Jake to get 4th back. I was really looking forward to the podium but came up short. The track was fun, it would be nice to race that place at night or have some sort of chemical for the dirt. With it being a daytime race it seemed to get dry very quickly.
Next day was the Short Track. First time I ever raced on Easter Sunday… Hope everyone had a good Easter. In the first practice I was way off on gearing. For the second practice, which is the first qualifying, and counts for time, it went much better and I was 2nd. I did not change anything for the second qualifying round, was 6th, but my times in the first qualifying stuck for the combined times so I was 2nd fast overall.
I got the hole shot in my Heat race and went backwards quickly. I couldn’t make anything happen. I got passed going across the strip for 4th so I had to run a Semi. I got a decent jump and finished 2nd in the Semi. For the Main Event I really wasn’t sure which way to go for set-up so we pretty much left it as it was. I got another good jump and was running up there, but faded back as the track got dry. I ended up in 12th place, worst finish of the year and worst finish for me in a long time. So we will try to pick up from there and roll into Springfield. We still have a lot of races to go but need to make some stuff happen quick.
Thanks to all my supporters, especially Craig Rogers and Rod Lake of Rogers-Lake Racing, Saddlemen, Montgomeryville Cycle Center, National Cycle and Digger Helm.

Suzuki's Ryan Dungey will try to defend his 450 title.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 16, 2011) – After months of anticipation, the summer is finally upon us and in a few short days, the world’s best riders will take to the track to kick off the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship. Defending 450 Class Champion, Ryan Dungey, leads the field into the Rockstar Energy Hangtown National to begin a summer of celebration for 40 years of American Motocross.
Dungey and his Rockstar/Makita Suzuki team enter 2011 after the most successful rookie campaign in premier class history. Alongside the champion, under the factory Suzuki tent, is the team’s newest addition, last year’s 450 Class championship runner-up Brett Metcalfe. The Australian rider was knocking on the door for his first career win several times last season. He will look for similar success with the best opportunity of his career as a member of the team that has won the last two premier-class titles.
After missing out on the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship last season, Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto is looking to capitalize on some recent momentum. The three-time national champion secured his first career title on the big bike just a couple weeks ago with the AMA Supercross Championship, following a highly-competitive season. After winning his first-career 450 Class start in 2009, Villopoto has battled injuries over the last two years and has not competed full time in American Motocross since winning his final 250 Class title in 2008. Villopoto’s third start since making the transition into the premier class will signify his first full-season against the fastest riders on the planet.
In addition to this trio of riders, several other challengers will line up at the starting gate this Saturday, signifying one of the deepest fields of competitors ever in American Motocross. Leading this charge is Red Bull KTM’s Andrew Short, who finished third in the championship last season. The perennial front-runner has long been one of the most consistent riders in motocross and he will look to give KTM its first win in the 450 Class. Last season, his teammate Mike Alessi secured an impressive final moto victory at Hangtown for the Austrian brand. The combination of the two riders will give KTM the best opportunity at success in many years.

Ryan Villopoto is coming off a championship-winning stadium campaign and will try to carry that momentum to the outdoor nationals.
With the overall victory at Hangtown last year to his credit, TwoTwo Motorsports/Bel-Ray Racing’s Chad Reed should also be a fixture at the front of the field on Saturday and beyond. The 2009 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Champion had an up and down season during his title defense, but with a clean bill of health and support from Factory Honda, Reed is eager to show his younger counterparts that he’s still ready to mix it up.
Speaking of veterans, after compiling an impressive season in a substitute role last summer that included one win, Kevin Windham is back for more in 2011 – reprising his role as a stand-in at American Honda. The passion for competition and the love of the fans was too much to keep Windham away during his 18th year of professional competition. He will make a special appearance at Hangtown, substituting for injured rookie and reigning 250 Class Champion, Trey Canard.
To challenge this exceptional field of talent, the Dirt Diggers North Motorcycle Club will present a trademark layout that combines high speeds with significant technicality, in addition to several elevation changes. The legendary circuit is renowned for its dynamic layout, which allows the thousands of fans in attendance to see nearly every aspect of the track. As the longest running event in American Motocross, the Hangtown Motocross Classic even precedes what is now known as the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship.
The rising stars of the 250 Class will also be in action, including GEICO Honda riders Justin Barcia and Eli Tomac, who made history at Hangtown last season by winning his first-career start. They will be flanked by a four-rider lineup for Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki with Tyla Rattray and Dean Wilson, each of whom won in 2010, in addition to Blake Baggett and Broc Tickle. Also making his American Motocross debut will be Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin, a two-time World Champion. The French transplant is looking for big things on U.S. soil and with Canard’s vacancy of the title with his move into the 450 Class, Musquin and his rivals are sure to provide stellar competition.

Jessica Patterson is the defending titlist in Women’s Motocross.
The Motorcycle-Superstore.com Women’s Motocross Championship will kick off its eight-race championship at Hangtown as well. Fresh off her sixth-career women’s title, DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing Yamaha’s Jessica Patterson will once again battle it out with Honda Red Bull Racing’s Ashley Fiolek in addition to the nation’s fastest females including Tarah Gieger, Vicki Golden and Mariana Balbi.
Before the bikes hit the track this Saturday, May 21, the biggest names in the sport and the city of Sacramento will come together to welcome the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship back to the state capital of California. A press conference will celebrate the history of this illustrious event on the steps of the State Capitol Building. Dungey, Reed, Villopoto, Canard, Short, Patterson, Fiolek and more will all be in attendance, along with their state-of-the-art race rigs.
