A photo from the 2000 AMA Grand Championship Dirt Track races, the amateur national championships. I think this photo was taken at the short track in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Matt Weidman would go on to become AMA Grand National Championhip Rookie of the Year in 2008. This photo was taken with a very early Sony digicam that saved the images on old 3 ½-inch floppy disks.
Nine-year-old Matthew Weidman gets the all-important holeshot over Keith Boulis (56) in the 65cc DTX final. Also shown in the photo is Chance McCormick (84), birthday boy John Lewis (21), who turned 11 Saturday, and John Long, the rider on the inside of the track. (Larry Lawrence photo)
